Privacy Policy
This policy explains what GutLens collects, how it is used, who it is shared with, and what GutLens does not claim to do. GutLens is the public brand for the gut-health companion app operated by DJ Applications, currently built and shipped as GutAI. Both names refer to the same underlying product and the same data practices described here.
In plain language
- GutLens does not collect your location, device or advertising identifiers, contacts, or behavioral analytics, and it does not sell your data.
- When GutLens looks up a food or a barcode, the food database only ever sees the search text or barcode, never your name, email, or health data.
- You can export everything you have logged, or permanently delete your account, at any time from Settings.
- GutLens does not diagnose any medical condition. Patterns and correlations are estimates based on what you log, not proof that one thing caused another.
- This marketing website (gutlens.fit) does not use cookies or behavioral tracking. It only links you to the app.

Overview
GutLens helps you log meals and symptoms, and surfaces patterns between them so you have more context for your own decisions and for conversations with a healthcare provider. This policy covers the GutLens app (available through app.gutlens.fit) and this marketing website (gutlens.fit). It is issued by DJ Applications, the business that builds and operates GutLens.
Information we collect
We collect the information you give us directly by using the app:
- Account information: email address, display name, and timezone.
- Preferences and goals: allergies, dietary preferences, calorie and macro goals.
- Meal data: food names, portions, nutrition values, timestamps, notes, natural-language meal descriptions, and optional photos you choose to attach.
- Symptom data: symptom type, severity, timing, duration, notes, and any meal you link to a symptom.
- Derived data: correlations, additive-exposure summaries, and other insights GutLens calculates from the meals and symptoms you have logged, to power the features you use.
Information we do not collect
GutLens does not collect:
- Location or GPS data.
- Device or advertising identifiers.
- Contacts, call logs, or messages.
- Behavioral or cross-app analytics tracking.
- Biometric data.
How we use information
We use the information above to provide the meal and symptom tracking features you use, to look up food and nutrition data, to calculate the correlations and summaries shown in the app, and to respond if you contact us. GutLens does not use your data for advertising, does not build an advertising profile of you, and does not sell personal information.
Third-party services and data sharing
To look up nutrition information, GutLens sends a query to one of the food data services below. Each service receives only the query itself, never your name, email, account identifier, or health data.

We do not sell personal information to data brokers or advertisers, under any name.
Optional AI and health connections
Some features are opt-in and inactive until you turn them on:
- Optional AI assistant connections use a read-only, account-scoped token. The connected provider handles any data it receives under its own privacy policy, and you can view or revoke the connection at any time from Settings.
- Apple Health and Google Health Connect sync is off until you explicitly turn it on. When enabled, GutLens imports meal and nutrition history from your device's health store; imported entries are labeled as estimates, not verified data. Exporting GutLens data back to your health store is a separate toggle, off by default. You can revoke access at any time through your device's operating-system permissions.
Data retention
We keep your data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, your meals, symptoms, insights, and account information are removed immediately from active systems. Encrypted infrastructure backups that already existed at the time of deletion may persist for up to 30 days before they are cycled out, but are not used or restored for any purpose other than disaster recovery.
Your rights and choices
- Export. Download everything you have logged, in a portable format, from Settings → Export Data.
- Delete. Permanently delete your account and its data from Settings. This is irreversible.
- Access and correction. You can view and edit your logged meals, symptoms, and profile information directly in the app at any time.
- Revoke optional connections. Disconnect any AI assistant connection or health sync at any time, as described above.
If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or a jurisdiction with similar data-protection law, these choices are how GutLens honors rights to access, rectify, erase, restrict, and port your data. If you are a California resident, GutLens does not sell or share personal information as defined under California law, so there is no sale to opt out of.
Medical and health disclaimer
GutLens is a tracking and pattern-recognition tool. It is not a medical device, and it is not a substitute for professional medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment.
- GutLens does not diagnose IBS, food intolerances, allergies, or any other medical condition.
- Correlations and patterns shown in the app are associations based on the meals and symptoms you log and the timing between them. They are not proof that a food caused a symptom.
- FODMAP screening in GutLens checks ingredient names, additive tags, and known FODMAP-relevant compounds. It is an ingredient-level screen, not a laboratory-verified, serving-size FODMAP classification.
- Nutrition values, portion estimates, and AI-assisted outputs (including photo scans and Coach responses) are estimates and may contain errors. Always verify information that matters to your safety, such as allergen content, directly against product packaging or the manufacturer.
- GutLens does not guarantee any particular health outcome, symptom relief, or weight change.
- Always talk to a qualified healthcare provider or registered dietitian before making dietary changes based on information in GutLens, and especially before starting or ending an elimination or reintroduction phase.
- GutLens is not for emergencies. If you believe you are experiencing a medical emergency, contact emergency services or a healthcare professional immediately.
Children's privacy
GutLens is not directed at children and is not intended for use by anyone under 16. We do not knowingly collect information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us using the details below and we will remove it.
Security
We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect the information you give us. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security. If we become aware of a breach affecting your data, we will notify you as required by applicable law.
International users
GutLens may process data in a country other than the one you live in, including the countries where our infrastructure and service providers operate. Wherever your data is processed, we apply the same practices described in this policy.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as GutLens changes. We will update the effective date above when we do, and for material changes we will provide a more prominent notice in the app. Continuing to use GutLens after a change takes effect means you accept the updated policy.
